Don’t let winter darken your wardrobe

November 27, 2017

As we move into the cooler months, we not only start dreading the sub-zero temperatures that we wake up to, we also start worrying about what we’re going to wear to make sure we stay warm and keep up to date with the latest fashions. Apart from the overload of meticulously planned Christmas celebrations and party outfits to look forward to, we need to turn our attention to our more mundane day to day wear in order to brave those fresher mornings.

Whether we want to or not, each year we are forced to put away the short skirts and spaghetti strap dresses and opt for something a little more – as our mums would say – sensible. And often that leads us to become a little boring with what we wear. It seems that we always turn to the same, reliable outfit… Because we all have one that we know looks good.

For me it’s the classic jumper-and-jeans combo. It’s perfect because, whilst keeping me warm and comfy, it’s a style that’s completely easy and on-trend. Having a go-to look is not necessarily a bad thing! A jumper-combo that we feel comfortable in every time we put it on is like going home to your mum’s roast dinner – it’s basically a hug in the form of an outfit (?) …. You know what I mean!

And, although we may feel like we can’t be as adventurous with our fashion in autumn/winter as we can in spring/summer (as seen in Mimazine’s recent fashion article: Madrid, you have inspired me) it doesn’t mean that there aren’t options out there, that once we’ve unravelled ourselves of copious scarves and big coats, that can make us feel like we haven’t completely given up with fashion for the sake of comfort.

An easy way to do so is by spicing up your look with some daring block colours. So here are some colourful, everyday jumpers for this season that will take your wardrobe from boring to bold, so you don’t have to leave the warmth of your cosy living room and drag yourself through the shops on your weekends off!

Pinks and Purples

Shades of pink have been on-trend for months but it’s not going anywhere… And lilacs are starting to make there way to the top of the colour chart too! Opt for a more floral, feminine look everyday of the week with any of these three options.

Just because it’s getting darker outside, it doesn’t mean our wardrobe has to too. A coloured jumper is a perfect way to add that something fun to your everyday look, and red is definitely one of the ‘in’ colours for 2018. This favourite is here to stay.

It’s not always been the easiest colour to wear, but contrast against the perfect washed denim jeans, it can brighten up your look as well as your day.

Blue and Green

For a darker colour that may not want to necessarily steal the show, blue and green jumpers are a good alternative to black and look amazing paired with a statement print top underneath, or some printed trousers.

Why not couple these bold block colours with some adventurous jewellery to add another dimension to your look?
